I sewed the first dress for myself on 29 April 2010. Two weeks later, I renamed and moved my blog to wordpress. How time flies cos that was exactly a year ago!
I’m celebrating my Made-Me sewing/ blogging anniversary with two giveaways – one starting today and the other on 12 May! Here are the goodies up for grabs and I mail worldwide.
The Japanese Box contains:
– An issue of Japanese sewing magazine “Cotton On” (seen below)
A Japanese sewing magazine with patterns (never used) and easy to understand diagrams. Lovely patterns for hats, bags, garments (adults and kids) such as those in the images below.
– Japanese fabric
A yard each of these cute Japanese fabrics. Great for craft and kid’s clothing.
And in conjunction with this anniversary, I would like you ask you dear readers, what improvement would you like to see on the blog.
So, to participate in this giveaway, please leave me a feedback in comments or if you are already happy with what you have been reading, please give me a link to a beautiful dress you have seen on blogsphere recently as inspiration. If you are subscribed to my blog, you get a second chance and if you link to this post, a third.
This Japanese box giveaway will end 12 May and I will use the random.org number generator to select a winner.
Blessings and let the fun begin!
Congrats on the anniversary! I love your blog. I haven’t started sewing my own clothes yet but you are inspiring me to buy a sewing machine and get started!
I think your blog is perfect the way it is. My favourite dress pattern is your Abandoned Hangar one.
PS I’m subscribed to the blog.
I found this unique dress a few days ago looking for inspiration. http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod123540005&parentId=cat30870735&masterId=cat000127&index=89&cmCat=cat000000cat000001cat17740747cat000127cat30870735 Love the tucking and blocking pattern used!
I love reading about the background of all your sewing projects, do you ever have waders that you don’t post about? It might be fun to see those too.
Anyways, happy anniversary and a great giveaway!
Love following your blog! More free patterns are always welcome.
I just found your blog today and it looks beautiful. You are sewing some amazing items. I have been dying to get my hands on that Cotton magazine. And all the fabrics I just love them too.
I love the blog and gain so much inspiration from it. Here’s my fave dress that I’ve seen blogged recently: http://jessicapeck.blogspot.com/2011/04/modcloth-in-yo-lace-inspired-dress.html
Wow. I cannot believe I am the first to comment for a drawing; a first!
First of all, thanks much for the chance to win this book. You asked the “movement” we would love to see on your blog. I have always loved bold and beautiful colors, but recently I have become enamoured of the “japanese movement”; the simplicity and yet very intricate designs in embroidery and sewing. I have fallen hard for the japanese blended fabrics with their soft colors.
I for one, revisit blogs regularly for tutorials on embroidery and sewing. Thanks again for the chance to win…I sincerely hope I do! 😉
Happy Blogiversary! I already love what you post – so just more of the same is great for reading to me 🙂
Re: an Inspiring Dress…
I’ve seen someone’s blog where they posted pics of a checked/plaid sleeveless blouse and a yellow dress (from a catalogue) that I want I am inspired by to copy for myself (here).
I forgot to mention, that I am already a subscriber…
Have a great day!
Desi
joyeux anniversaire! what a nice box, i would love to have it in my letter box 🙂
have a nice day!!
adeline
I thought, nope I like your blog just how it is, but then I went to find the leave a comment button and it was at the top of the post–maybe move it down to the bottom instead? As for dresses, I just found this: http://pinterest.com/pin/7384763/ and it looks fantastic.
I”m a new reader so I don’t feel comfortable giving feedback yet. I just started reading/following you this week!
Err that was my “subscribing” entry since I can’t follow directions… and here is my inspiration dress! http://www.chictopia.com/photo/show/313303-Floral+Fifties-blue-homemade-dress
Thanks for the give away, I love the hat above. I’ve been following your blog for a few months now and I love your work the only thing I’d change is to get a bit more info on the processes you use to make your work as we tend to only see them as finished pieces. My two favourite dresses on the blogsphere of late are by oonaballoona http://oonaballoona.blogspot.com/2011/04/i-chi-go-girl.html and this great one that Grosgrain linked to http://www.shopruche.com/gretal-dress-in-navy-chambray-by-dear-creatures-p-6093.html
Happy blogiversary! I can’t believe you sewed up your first dress exactly a year ago! you are amazing!!!
Hi, I’ve been reading your blog for a while and I find it really inspirational – I can’t believe you’ve only been going a year! I wouldn’t change anything, but I love the dress on the second post of this blog – http://fromme-toyou.tumblr.com/tagged/fwdailyoutfit – under the heading “S’Wonderful”. It’s a photography blog but the clothes are amazing…
Hi, I have only just discovered your blog and I am loving it, especially since I am also a new subsciber to Ottobre and am loving what you are doing from my most recent catalogue. I would love to win either one of these great prizes.
Thanks for sharing your sewing journey.
Happy Anniversary! Your blog has been inspirational to novice like me. It always brightens my day to see your new creation, i can feel the happiness of the fabric being transformed into a lovely dress or skirt. Keep up the good work!
Dear Adey, Happy sewing blogging anniversary! Yay!
I like how you post simple tutorials and patterns that are perfect for a novice like me, regardless your advance skill. Please keep them coming, you inspire me so much 🙂
almost forgot, recently I’m drooling over this: http://coolspotters.com/clothing/blumarine-spring-2008-orange-tunic-dress
do you happen to know how to make it.. the easy way? 😀
twitted this giveaway @insideinaku
Happy Anniversary! And what a great giveaway.
I would like to see in your blog, perhaps, your sewing room!??
And maybe more tutorials!?
But it’s already a very very good blog! I never miss any of your posts.
And I have been your follower since a long long time already..!
Love your blog, but I also a big fan of more tutorials!
I love your blog as it is…full of inspiration!
Congrats on the blogiversery! I’ve only been reading for a few weeks, so I don’t have much feedback to give. I struggle with keeping my sewing space organized, so maybe a post on your sewing room?
Happy Anniversary! I love your blog. I am only a recent subscriber but always look forward to your next creation. One suggestion I have is to make sure any links on your page open up a new tab. It is hard to go back sometimes.
love your work. it would be nice to see technique tutorials. i always love learning how people do different things.
I just found your site and love your sewing designs. look forward to more inspirations 🙂
Hi, there. Just found your blog through Grosgrain and am loving it. Such classically beautiful garments in interesting fabrics. Keep it up.
Oh, and I just subscribed to the blog through Google Reader. Looking forward to getting updates/inspiration!
Happy anniversary.
I really like all you’ve done lately. You and Kookai inspire me : I’d like to sew a mixed dress of a Kookai one (can’t find it on web) and your Hallyu dress for my aunt’s retirement party in june. If I’ll do it, I’ll send you a picture of it.
For you, I’d like to see you in a dress like Pippa Middelton at her sister’s weeding… Have a nice week-end!
Ohh. Lovely. I just found your blog, and have some looking around to do:) I am running a summer dress challenge at my blog, and am on the lookout for some inspiration.
Joyeux bloganniversaire!
I like your approach as I just started sewing in the last year or so myself and have been intrigued with Japanese sewing patterns — just made my first top and people ask if they can buy it from me! I like seeing how you use the fabrics you choose. Great year!
I love the site, the only thing about the site I would change would be for you to “decorate” your blog and personalize it.
Happy Blogiversary. I’ve just started sewing again and am finding good blogs, including yours, for informationa and inspiration. It’s lovely the way it is but I haven’t gone back too far in the archives.
Ooh, I just spent fun minutes perusing your blog…it’s lovely just as is! Thanks for your giveaway, too…I’m just getting into sewing and I feel like a child in a candy shop!
Happy anniversary! I can’t believe you are new to sewing, you’re doing so well. I just made your Sunny Resort Blouse. It’s great, and I’ll definitely be making more (with some neckline alterations as I messed that up on the first one). Thanks for being so inspiring!
Adey,
I have been a subscriber of your blog for a long time, you are so talented! I look forward to your posts and love to see what you come up with next. Just keep sewing and sharing!
Your blog is already so inspiring! My fashion inspiration is quite creepy – http://www.flickr.com/Photos/keepersdollyduds/5594019844 love that 40s style!
Your blog is already inspiring! I’m looking at 40s overalls for inspiration!
Found your blog through whip up then grossgrain then you! I love your blog. Lots of good ideas. I love the designs by my daughter’s friend:
http://sparkletramp.blogspot.com/2011/02/sneak-peek.html
I just love your resort blouse.

Nice trip from your beginning to today. Of course, i’d like to win your nice present! et longue vie à the sew convert
I love your blog so much, I always get so much inspiration from it!
I would really like to see some posts on how you get your inspiration to put together certain patterns and fabrics to come up with such wonderful looks! I really struggle to put together projects, amd I’m so impressed at how successful you always are.
Thanks, and I’ve subscribed!
Congrats on your Blogiversary!! I love your blog and look forward to checking it every morning with my coffee. I would love to see more pictures of where you get your fabric and notions, vintage finding excursions etc. Living in western New York is so dreary and I imagine all these exotic (and warm!!) shopping trips you have. I’d would love to win the give-a-way, those mommy and me-ish smocks on the cover would be so cool to make for our short lived summer days here. My little lady would look so cute strutting those fabric choices too! Congrats again!!
I love your blog. I haven’t been following long… but I went back and read all your older posts. lol I love your blog the way it is. maybe more info about what patterns your useing? I love all your outfits and all the pics.
I’m totally Subscribed. thanks so much for hosting this givaway. I shared on facebook…dose that count?
The biggest improvement recently has been your pictures. You seem to be taking the photos in more places and actually staging them (is staging the right word?) Way to go on this improvement!
your site is very inspirational!
Sorry! I didn’t mean to say “actually staging them” (that sounds kinda mean. I just wanted to point out that I think that your photos recently have been really good (they were always good) Keep up the good work!!
I subscribed to your blog a few weeks ago, and just love the content you have here. It is so inspiring!
I don’t have a particular dress in mind as inspiration, but I’d love to make (and wear) a summery dress that works for my figure. Most patterns seem designed for average or busty women, and they don’t work for those of us who are less endowed on top. Any suggestions?
@Audie: No worries 🙂 Glad you like the styling of my photos:)
@Marsha: I’ve sent you an email with a couple of suggestions which I think would be pretty pretty:)
@Sydney: sure thing and thank you so much
@Peggy: Merci and I am so glad you want to make the Hallyu dress:)
me,me, can it please be me!
I love all of your dresses and designs. Thanks for all of the inspiration you provide. The tutorials are great as well.
Fun giveaway- congrats on your anniversary
I love your blog. Especially the photos and detail shots. Please include more detail shots so we can see your beautiful work up-close.
I also subscribe! Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary. I’m new to your blog via Grosgrain and I really like the overall layout and the header bar on the top (made by me, tutorials etc.) It made it quick and easy to get around and see all your great stuff. I do think the side bar can be cleaned up a bit, more stream-lined. Not sure how, but that’s the only thing I could think of!
I absolutely adore your blog! I only found it very recently, but I’ve been eating it up! Here is a link to a dress I love and would love to make. 🙂 I just found it yesterday and it seems so simple – I must give it a try.

Thank you for such a wonderful give away!
By the way, i am a new subscriber and here is a link to my blog linking to your post! 🙂

I just found your site and I’m liking what I’m seeing! FUN!(and how cool that I also entered your giveaway)
I do feel very inspired by your blog, what I would like to see are some of your modifications, like I LOOOOOVe what you did to the behind the seams dress, maybe you could do a few tutroials in how to draft them?
congrats, Im definitly a subscriber too : )
Mariana
I love your blog and totally enjoy all the lovely things you make. Another blog I really enjoy is Tiny Happy, I like the simple things she makes that are so lovely.
http://tinyhappy.typepad.com/tiny_happy/2011/04/an-autumn-dress.html here is a dress she made recently.
You’re always an inspiration of course! My favourite dress changes every 5 minutes – but my current love is this Vivienne Westwood – http://www.my-wardrobe.com/vivienne-westwood-anglomania/new-ariana-dress-633988. I’m a sucker for draping and stripes!
I really enjoy your site. You have a great style and everything you make seems fun and something I would wear. There is nothing I would change, except maybe to see more of your great creations!
So, I did see this dress just yesterday, http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/emerald-shift-dress which, although is not a new design by any means, it is classy and elegant. The fabric used was ‘Silk chiffon/viscose burnout’ and I imagine that it is even more gorgeous in real life than in the picture. I especially love the matching belt. I have a similar pattern to this and think I could make it! Now that’s a good thing.
And I’m also a subscriber of your site :o)
But don’t have a web site of my own to link to you :o(
Congrats on your anniversary! You are such an inspiration! I would love to read more about the patterns you used and what you thought of them. I’ve purchased many of the patterns you talked about based on your reviews!
Congratulations on your blog and your sewing. Your sewing is amazing, in only one year! I like the tutorials and want to try piping on something I sew!
trendy efforts! keep em up
