Fabric Buying in Osaka

I’ve not been able to sew recently as I was busy planning and packing for a family vacation in Japan.  We came back on Saturday and I’ve been busy unpacking. I couldn’t resist sharing the lovely fabric I bought while in Osaka and I have Jacqui from Blooming in Japan to thank for giving absolutely superb directions to the fabric store located at the Ebisubashi shopping street! I had my two kids with me and it was not easy for serious fabric shopping but in 5 minutes, I managed to select the four Japanese fabric shown in the photo above. I love the prints and the price even more. The four metres of fabric cost 2,800 Yen which is around US$7 per metre! That’s probably half the price of what I’ll get on etsy excluding shipping!

I returned to the shop on my last day in Japan and bought more. After all, with the baby food and crackers eaten up, I now have more luggage space for fabric:)

So I ended up with some hello kitty and disney’s cars quilted material and even an echino print!

This is the first time I bought fabric while on holiday and that made me an absolutely happy woman!

  1. I bought 3 metres of the echino fabric and plan to make a dress for myself:P I have been eyeing that fabric on etsy so I absolutely had to buy it when I saw it at the store! The rest of the kiddy fabric are off course stuff for the kids- dresses, bags etc. I love Japanese fabric too!!

Having the opportunity to go to Osaka in May, I would love if you would have the time to send me some adresses (hopefully near the Hotel Unizo) for the lovely childrens print and maybe also some more of the classic and heavier Japanees quilt fabric?
    Thanks a lot, Anette

  37. Hello!! Thanks for sharing this info with us.
I am in Osaka today for just one day.
Can I have the name or address of the shop? Hope this message reach on time.
    Thanks in advance!!!

  38. @Glorimar Rosa:

There’s the Toraya fabric store in NAMBA. It’s within the famous Ebisubashi shopping street. If you can find Takashimaya Department store, walk across the road towards a covered arcade called Ebisubashi. Once inside the arcade, walk along a couple of hundred meters and you will find Toraya on the right.

There is also the ABC craft store. It’s in Tennoji (Tennoji station).

    Hope that helps.

  39. Thanks so much!! I went to Toraya and loved it!! Thanks for the info, if it wasn’t for your blog I would have never found this fabulous fabric store. Thanks a LOT !!

  40. Hello! I’m going to spend a week in Osaka and I would really appreciate if you could send me these amazing directions for the shops! 🙂
